Ken Cowell is a painter of light and vision influenced by the waterways and coast of Bruny Island. From his studio in Adventure Bay he paints great soft maritime pieces that express the mysterious mingling of water, fog, land, sea and ship. Bruny's perilous maritime past emerges from his painterly surfaces: historic shipwrecks painted alongside the present life of the Bay, all expressed with rich, layered oil glazes.
His works on paper in oil pastel show the expressive processes that underlay his oil paintings.
Ken gained his Degree in Fine Art at the National Art School Sydney and lectured at the National Art School Newcastle.
