Acrylic on canvas 45 x 60 cm. Strong gestural brushstrokes describe a pond bounded by purple Japanese iris. The artist has counterpointed the blue purple iris with yellow blossoms, linking to a sophisticated play of greens in this exuberant study of his garden.
Tim Price is an exuberant painter who depicts all kinds of Tasmanian subjects in a wide variety of styles. A wonderful colourist, he enjoys painting landscape en plein air with a painterly and expressive brushstroke using saturated colour. These works express immediacy and transfer the visceral sense of being in the open air while avoiding conventional pictoral depth. His paintings have the light and colour of Vlaminck and Sisley but with added Hockneyesque colour.
