Artist’s Statement - The Paleo Collection
Most people of European origins have a common heritage in art from the Neolithic age. Altimira and Lasceax are famous destinations for viewing such art in the form of cave paintings where the earliest depictions of animals roaming the forests and grasslands of the era, and the people who hunted them.
I love the idea of bringing that heritage into our homes and everyday life, through the medium of functional items such as mugs, plates and bowls, where we can once again look and wonder at these animals, enjoy our own feast of plenty, and reflect on the difference of survival in those times and life as it is now. My work is wheel thrown stoneware, hand painted and glazed, made in my home studio in Lutana, near Hobart.
